Tuesday, 4.17.12QoTD: “Setting a goal is not the main thing. It is deciding how you will go about achieving it and staying with that plan.” (Knute Rockne) VoTD: So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Is. 41:10, NIV) Spiritual WOD: Consistency is something we talk a lot about in the gym. Consistently showing up and consistently giving your all inevitably results in consistently getting better. Personally, I tend towards striving for a consistent pace in wods. Rather than exploding at 110% for 30-60 seconds and then falling down to 75% before ramping back up when I can, I find myself working towards a good 95+% throughout the duration of the wod. (which doesn’t translate well to Krav, by the way). Pretty simple, right? Except that its not. Our best laid intentions get thwarted by a poor nights sleep and not getting up in time to be at the gym at 6am. Computer troubles, or a client or patient needed more attention late in the afternoon and you just could get to the gym by 6:30pm either. Spring is here and the garden is calling. All very understandable. One of my favorites and that I hear a lot is kids sports activities… (Forgive the sarcasm. We’ll save kids sports activities for another time…) Perhaps you just can’t say ‘no’ to people and are always sprinting back and forth helping with this and volunteering for that. Life is busy. And it should be. But is it so busy that it prevents you from being consistent in what’s important? Does it throw you off course and prevent you from consistently reaching your destination? Perhaps the key question is – what are you focused on, and where is your destination? Are you continually distracted, or knocked off course by unexpected events – or unnecessary activities – to the point of never making any progress? Your health is important. Have you built good habits that lead to steadiness and consistency? If you are focused on the destination of good health and true fitness, you won’t be distracted by the Tim Hortons sign as you drive by, or the sight of the couch and the tv remote. Your relationship with Christ is ultra important. Is your relationship with Christ consistent and steady? If you are focused on Christ, if you are aware of His presence in your life and enjoy a close relationship with Him, it is far easier to remain steady and consistent in the face of all that tempts and torments us.
